Another Way To Go GREEN! Recycled Garage Doors!

Manor House Recycled Garage DoorsWhen someone mentions a Green or Recycled Product, many expect to see one that is an Ultra Contemporary Product that lacking pizazz.  However, Green and Recycled can look GORGEOUS!

I met a company in Houston that is a supplier of Garage Doors called Garage Door Services.  Over the conversation the lady mentions that they are GREEN.  What?

Come to find out, the picture to the left is a GREEN Garage Door.  It is a Certified Recycled Productwhich means that atleast 86% of the Door is made of Recycled or Recovered Products.  81% Recovered Wood Fibers and 5% Paper

To make them even more GREEN, the doors actually have a decent R Value and NO CFC's!  There is also a number of choices for style, color, etc.  In Houston, the Doors are made Locally which also reduces shipping emissions and also qualifies as a product for LEED Certified Homes.  (shipped less than 500 miles) However, these doors are sold and manufactured Nationwide.

If you are considering a Remodel and wanting to take a step toward Green, how about a Classy, Gorgeous, Green, Recycled Garage Door?

To find a supplier near you, visit the Ankmar website.  If you would like to contact Garage Door Services in Texas or Oklahoma to inquire about their many products available, feel free to visit their website to find a location near you.

Hi Stephanie - wow, who knew that garage doors would be 'green'?? And those doors are beautiful looking, too. I don't know I thought they might look like, if I ever thought of a 'green' garage door before, but surely not looking like those you have pictures of. What is "CFC"? Ann

Boy did you hit one of my buttons! Ines might hate seeing pictues of toliets on the MLS but I hate garage doors. I don't know why builders don't think about garage doors. YES, they should have an R value! Builders often use the garage as an insulator for the house but what they end up with is a wind block for the house. And I hate, hate, hate the eye sores of a white garage door on an expensive house. It's like sticking a 10 cent cheap bow on a beautiful package - it does make a difference.

I am all for green products.... we should recycle more.

I am especially waiting for solar panels to get cheaper.

Thanks. The products look good with a decent warrantty. I am surprised they do not promte the green part of the doors a bit more though. I really had to look to find it.

Nice Doors. But the should advertise the fact that the do have a green product. This is the opposite of green washing. Not advertising the fact you do have a green product. As a designer searching the internet for green products I would have bypassed there site and never looked at them. Thanks for the post.

Hi Stephanie:  Actually, those are pretty good looking garage doors.  Yes, green is beautiful.  Was it Kermit the Frog who sang It Ain't Easy Being Green.  How prophetic of lil Kermie.  Thanks for a very informative post... take care...

Stephanie,

Thank you for the plug on our product. These doors truly are a terrific product. Not only are they green, they are an excellent upgrade to a regular steel garage door without the cost of a buying a full cedar garage door.

When the buyers goal is to "go green" and have a door that is extremely durable - this is your door. They are available in any of our 6 locations including Houston.

To help some the comments of your readers, this door is available with a wind load rated configuration - as needed in your Houston market.

The reason some of your readers could not find this door at the Ankmar site is because Ankmar went out of business. This garage door was purchased by the Overhead Door company and renamed DuraGreen. It seems that I am the only one on the Internet pushing this door. I think it's great. If you google "DuraGreen Green Garage Doors" you will find the door at our website. The link is http://www.gdsofusa.com/DuraGreen_Green_Garage_Door.html.

Overhead door manufactures these doors in a space they rent from us in Lockhart Texas, right next to our corporate office.

I appologize the page is so old. It is in need of an update. It's on the list...

Wonderful Blog Stephanie. Keep it up and I will be glad to provide you or your fellow bloggers information on this product if you need it.
