Asheville Baseball: Sustainability Lives in the Mountains! (light-hearted)

It's baseball season again! And once again, THE Asheville Tourists  are creating energy all around the bases down at McCormick Field

The park opened in 1924. Since then, keeping a tradition of sustainable practices much admired here in Asheville, it has been renovated  twice, once in 1959, and again for the 1992 season. McCormick Field, which seats 4,000 fans, is within walking distance of a friendly (and yes sustainable) Asheville neighborhood. Neighbors are quick to point out that the scoreboard reads "Visitors" in the guest slot and "Tourists" in the home slot.

GOOD NEWS for relocating second or vacation house hunters::  In association with the Asheville Independent Restaurant Association the Tourists are offering a special Ticket Package  for the 2010 season. This includes: 12 Box Flex Tickets and a $50 restaurant gift certificate for $99. LOOK at just a few of the large number of the independent restaurants in Asheville.

The Asheville Tourists, founded in 1915 is a Class A organization. In 1968, the Tourists won the Southern League championship under manager Sparky Anderson,  one of my favorite managers of all-time!  Anderson went on to manage the THE Detroit Tigers.   (OK I admit it, I'm a lifelong fan of the Tigers...win or not win.)

Currently, Joe Mikulik, who is infamous for his tirade after being ejected from a June game against the Lexington Legends still manages our Tourists. (see video and tell me if you laughed or cried)

Some day I will come watch a game at McCormick Field! Sounds like a great place! Like you...I am a lifelong Tigers fan and thought such injustice was served at last night's game. What a shame...

Thanks for sharing!
