Eco Friendly Real Estate Blog: What's On YOUR Lucky Green Roof? Part 2. An Irish Lad in Boston's Southie.

What's On YOUR Lucky Green Roof? Part 2. An Irish Lad in Boston's Southie.

In Part 1 of this series,  we admitted that after visiting Asheville NC's LEED Certified Blue Ridge Parkway Center and the Green Roof we became  Roof Nuts,  intrigued with the concept and  possibilities today's roofs offer . Features such as  roof color, stormwater runoff systems, skylights improve sustainability and quality of life. But the most fascinating of all for us is The "Lucky" Green Roof.

According to Wikipedia, "A green roof is a roof of a building that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane. It may also include additional layers such as a root barrier and drainage and irrigation systems."

Green roofs offer a wide array of public and private benefits including food production, charming outdoor spaces, oxygen production, building insulation, heat absorption,  and water filtration-ll part and parcel of what makes it "Lucky" for owners and residents.

But do you know what goes into creating a Green Roof ?  Have you actually have walked on one or even seen one?   If not, this could be your "Lucky Day." Imagine that...on March 17th no-less.

Here is a quick video tour for you-  short and delightful videos that may make a Roof -Nut out of you, too. Let me know what you think.

janeAnne, I'm very interested in learning about 'green roof' building methods so will watch the video sometime today when I have a minute. I wonder how a green roof would fare in a northern climate? Jo

Something just struck me. A house is the sum of it's parts, but it has to be considered as a whole. With the green movement more and more buyers / sellers/ agents are becoming educated about the parts. Of course, education is always a good thing.

Hi JaneAnne: I stopped by to wish you a Happy St Patrick's Day from the team at National Credit Fixers! :)

JaneAnne - I find the whole green roof concept so fascinating!  I suspect we are going to see a lot of new green technologies entering the housing field in the near future.

Jo~ Good question. Boston (location of the first video) gets snow in the winter, but I am not sure how much or how cold it gets there...and Chicago (second video) really gets cold for long periods and has big wind factors to consider.... I can hardly wait to see your reaction to the first video =)
