You know that old country song..."I was country before country was cool..." ? Well ,guess who was "Greenolina" before sustainability was cool? . . . Remember the old Green is Red Hot Contests that took place in March, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 right here on Active Rain? They were fun and informative and as a result, the Eco- All-Star Group went from 2 members (yes just Dena and me back in 2006) to a very nice 1,000+.
Now it looks as if the trend toward green -sustainability it red hot in a broader audience. As a land broker, I was so pleased to learn of a webinar sponsored by the REALTORS® Land Institute, for example.
" Sustainable development is the ability to satisfy the basic needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to do so...the intention behind sustainable development is to create a balanced environment that can be maintained in line with nature's life supporting systems," says the eFlyer I just received.
So it turns out that-
Planning low impact land use to preserve natural beauty and resources is the trend.
This webinar deals with mighty interesting subjects including:
-
non-polluting alternative energy sources - solar, wind, hydro
-
strategic planning to preserve natural features, habitats
-
giving thought to sustainable landscape design tactics
I am excited about this. Possibly, you are someone who might benefit from taking a look this link for more information: http://www.rliland.com/WebSeminars.aspx

janeAnne, thanks so much for alerting me to this post! Yes, it was you and I way back when and look at how far we've come! You know "green" is a big part of our world anymore when you see (good or bad) Super Bowl commercials promoting it. Thanks for the link - I'm always trying to learn!
Dena~
Seems we have been birds-of-a-feather for a long time now =) ..and the flock is catching the wind!
It's hard being cool before your time, but it's so satisfying when everybody finally catches up and you can claim your pioneer status. Three cheers for janeAnne and Dena!
Thanks JaneAnne and Dena! I say ditto to Dave's comments! I appreciate you sending along the webinar and will check it out. Carpe Ventum!

It is exciting to see how sustainable innovation grabs the interest of people looking for solutions in energy efficiency (solar orientation) and in land planning...THX for you comment!

and Monique~
Glad you will check out the link. It does seem that visionaries are relevant (maybe more so than ever) in today's world...
Jane Anne: Thank you. I didn't know about the Realtor Land Institute. Maybe that's because there apparently is no chapter in California. I didn't see one on the list. What's up with that? Im a director of the board of the Sonoma Land Trust so this is of particular interest to me.
Green has turned into a buzz-word for more greed-filled business owners to use and try to exploit. I don;t think anybody really cares about true sustainable development.
JaneAnne this is something I am interest in. Preservation, open space, being green is something my community is embracing.
Hi JaneAnne -- This has to garner more interest as time goes on, due to the unfolding of many events that make this a long overdue concept that will eventually, predominate culture as generations pass -- just my 25c prediction.
Hi janeAnne, Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sounds like it will have some great information. I do believe that the past few years we saw this coming in your contests. :)
