While watching the British Open at St. Andrews, The Home of Golf"in Fife, Scotla
nd this weekend, I was reminded of the history of the Old Course at this Home of Golf, where the game has been nurtured and developed for 600 years.
AH! And the "weather" turned up to play along with the pros. Did you see the oscillation it introduced to the balls taking them from one end of the green to the other? "Weather" is part of the experience, I'm told.
Back when Dad played St. Andrews, the "weather" must have been at least as demanding. He found it to be " an amazing challenge." Between the bunkers and the "weather" though, I might opt of golf Asheville-style!
Compare this bunker at St. Andrews (to the right) to that of one of the bunkers at Balsam Mountain Preserve, one of our amazing eco-and golf-play-friendly courses, (see below) for example, and tell me if I have a point! This is all in good humor, of course. And I know Dad thought playing St. Andrews was one of the highlights of his life as a golfer. One of his dreams was to be able to stretch his legs on the golf course almost daily. That's one promise living right on a golf course can help you keep.
