As a REALTOR ® into sustainable innovation, I’m always interested in the thoughts of intelligent young people. That’s why I follow the blog of a group of 20-Somethings who speculate about the future.
This week, one of the group, who spent time on the Hill as a Senate intern, posited: “The challenge of governance is that of making collective decisions.” Pointing out and defining three ways that a group of people can come to a collective decision—
1. Swarm: “Everybody acts according to what is best for them.”
2. Consensus: “Everybody sits down, discusses their preferences, beliefs, and opinions of the options at hand.”
3. Delegation: “The task is divided between several people, each of whom works on it individually.”

Indeed, we are not alone...
(like this little boy perched on the railroad tracks in an Asheville area town)
There is that challenge of making collective decisions….
as real estate buyers, sellers, investors and we REALTORS® know!
“Here's my take on things: our biggest challenges are no longer technological. They are issues of communication, coordination, and cooperation. These are, for the most part, well-studied problems that are not wicked. The methodologies that solve them need to be scaled up from the small-group settings where they currently work well, and injected into the DNA of our society--or, at least, built into our default modes of using the internet. They then can be used to tackle the wicked problems," says Karl Schroeder at Charles Stross's blog.

What we need, in other words, is a Facebook for collaborative decision-making: an app built to compensate for the most egregious cognitive biases and behaviours that derail us when we get together to think in groups. Decision-support, stakeholder analysis, bias filtering, collaborative scratch-pads and, most importantly, mechanisms to extract commitments to action from those that use these tools. I have zero interest in yet another open-source copy of a commercial application, and zero interest in yet another Tetris game for Android. But a Wikipedia's worth of work on this stuff could transform the world.”
For a REALTOR ® into sustainable innovation, this feels like a move from eco-efficiency to eco-potency— one that goes beyond embracing what simply is restorative to what is regenerative. And, I am thinking about providing a legacy- a positive footprint. So keeping that “positive footprint,” the 20-Somethings and the above advice in mind,
I want to know what is on your wish list? A more affordable, healthy-built home? A place to live where your children and their children can thrive? A solution for a world in distress?
We are all making wishes. But when we make known our wishes together with others, aggregating our demand, then those in power can hear the call. In this way, can we actually can change the face of the world as we know it, and powder it with compassion?
