The work in Urban Sustainable Innovation of two Georgia Tech professors has captured my interest. They are Michael Gamble and Jude LeBlanc who work in the field of intelligent, site responsive design at all scales with a special focus on the creation of healthy environments. And they will be coming to Asheville, NC next week for a presentation on Incremental Urbanism (see insert) for Asheville's AIA!
Gamble has received grants from the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development, the National Endowments of the Arts, and received First Prize for Research in an international competition sponsored by the Environmental Design and Research Association.
He, along with LeBlanc recently published a series of essays on the design of the public realm in Harvard Design Magazine and the Book Writing Urbanism, published by Routledge in 2009.
Planning, Infrastructure and Urban Design
Incremental Urbanism is a research project, undertaken by LeBlanc and Gamble. The project looks at retrofitting automobile- oriented infrastructure to accommodate pedestrian systems. This project received an Environmental Design Research Association/Places Award for Research, and also an Architecture for Social Justice Award
